The hardest trek in the world

Overview of Trip

Some people say this is the most difficult trek in the world. The usual routing takes 23 days of trekking covering a total of 340km. The trek crosses 11 high altitude passes at more than 4,500m (14,763 feet) with 3 of these passes exceeding 5,000m (16,404 ft).

The remoteness of the area in the Lunana region of Bhutan adds to the difficulty of this trek. There are very few villages, no mobile phone coverage (the guides carry a satellite phone in case of trouble), and the only way out is by foot or helicopter if something goes wrong. The altitude is even too high for pack horses for some of the trip and yaks are required for porting the equipment.

There are no mountain climbing technical skills required for this trek and we have even had guests complete this with almost no trekking experience. Completing the trek however requires a considerable amount of drive and ambition to keep pushing forward for such a long duration in some difficult considtions.
